I love daylight-savings, but it sure does make driving in the afternoons a bit of a challenge. It’s only fun when it’s not in your eyes and you get to watch people in the opposite direction bob around trying to use their rear-view mirror or the bus in front of them to shadow their eyes.

Somethings are certain of festivals: you spend a wad of cash on food and drinks; the queue for the bar and toilets are horrendous; and the toilet (or port-a-loo) itself… well, let’s just say some things are better left unsaid. With all these negatives stacking up against festivals, why do you bother? Well you can just go along with it and join the horrendous drink queue like we did for over an hour (the picture below shows less than a quarter of the line). Or you can seek out some better options.

I must say, I thought we planned our day spectacularly, never once having to use a smelly port-a-loo (due to some smart planning). And only spending a total of $130 between the 5 of us – that includes drinks, food and parking. Bargain!
The small dent in the wallet came from being in the right place at the right time. While in the drink line (for over an hour) a few people approached us asking if they could cut in behind us with the return of buying us drinks. Sweet as, hop in line brother. The result: 3 free drinks when we thought it was just going to be one freebie.
Later in the day we found a nice little spot to make our base, which was conveniently right next to a pile of empty cans and bottles. At Homebake they have a recycling program where if you return empty cans or bottles they reward you with a $1 drink voucher. The whole time we were there no one claimed the pile so we took it upon ourselves to grab it all and cash the reward. The result $31. Sweet as.

Cheapest day at a festival yet! (And rocking bands!)

Well my Summer’s started off just great. I’ve spent the first 2 days of summer stuck in bed with the worst flu I’ve ever had. It’s Codral, Vicks and Kleenex all the way. I’m just hoping that I’ll be better for Homebake on Saturday, otherwise it’s gonna be one long crappy day in the sun.
Sorry about the blurry photo, it’s a bit hard to stand straight when everything’s swaying.
Anyhoo, back to bed.

In the middle of the festival hype we impulsively bought tickets to Stereosonic. Do I regret that decision? Yes and no. The festival itself was great, well planned so that even though there were 20,000 festival goers, you never had to wait long for a drink or a pee. I think that was part of my problem, no lines at the bar meant quick and easy access to Red Bull – one too many Red Bulls.
After a day of downing countless cans of Red Bull I was buzzing and having a great time. Then, at night, when the effects started to fade came the most painful sugar crash I’ve ever experienced. In fact it was worse than a sugar crash, it was a Red Bull crash. Just imagine a Star Burst sugar crash, then times it by ten. I kid you not, it was horrible. From now on, I’m swearing off Red Bull (except for road trips, can’t do a road trip without Red Bull).
