Can you handle the heat?

Cityrail - FAIL

With yesterday being the hottest day in 2009 since January I didn’t leave the office, not even to go to the TAB (which is a good thing because the horse I was planning to bet on didn’t win). I only stepped outside for a minute to take a photo of the temperature sign in North Sydney. A shocking 39 degrees!

When I was outside I noticed that the train (pictured above) wasn’t moving, I just thought it was a minor “We’re waiting for the signals to change” delay. Little did I know that this was the train that broke down for 40 minutes leaving passengers trapped with no air-con and other commuters forced to walk in the sweltering heat. Naughty City Rail!

So glad I drove to work yesterday, otherwise I would have joined the sea of angry people walking over the bridge to Wynyard. I was going to take a photo of the sea of people walking, but they looked pretty peeved and I thought they might yell at me (or worse) for taking a photo.

Seriously, the North Shore line sucks. This is the second time I’ve seen it breakdown. The last time it broke down I had to walk over the bridge and was met by an angry commuter walking in the opposite direction. You know how sometimes when you’re out walking you kindly acknowledge people walking in the other direction? Especially when you have to move to let them past. Well I sort of gave a “well doesn’t this suck”  kind of smile, his reply “What the f**k are you smiling at?”. Now that was one angry City Fail commuter (oops I mean City Rail).

Hitting the e-courts

Wii Sports Resort

I love playing Basketball, but I’m also a lazy bum. And since my laziness is stronger than my desire to play ball, I haven’t been to the courts in a long while. However, I may have found a solution.

I was a bit skeptical when I first saw that basketball had been added to the list of games on the wii Sports Resort game. I didn’t think wii could do it justice. But I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. Besides the usual frustration with computer games where you scream at the TV and call it a “big fat cheater”, the game runs really well and most of the movements seem true to life.

Wii motion sensor

With the additional motion sensor that snaps on, the wii-mote is able to pick up an even larger range of motion. From tilt, to angles and even that ever-so-important flick of the wrist when making a 3-pointer.

It will certainly keep you entertained for a few couple of weeks and it’s a great party game, but like most wii games, the novelty is short lived.
