My ride for the week

Audi a4I’m usually a pretty calm behind the wheel, but when you’re driving a beauty like this, you can’t help but feel nervous. It’s a 1 month new Audi A3 convertible and boy is it nice. Like really nice. So nice that I’m really scared to drive it. This might be old news to some people, but to me, automatic lights and windscreen wipers are absolutely fascinating. The interior isn’t too shabby either.

Seriously cool tool

Burton bindingsOn our recent trip to Perisher, G had to pay $25 to get her bindings fitted because we didn’t know how to fit them ourselves and didn’t have the right tools. Little did we know, it’s dead easy. One place even tried to charge us $50! Yeah right, what a rip!

To ensure we never have that problem again I pulled apart my setup to see how it all worked, I must say it was alot fun. The bindings we got are so customisable, there are more options than we know how to tweak. But of course I made sure I tweaked everything, just for kicks.

Dakine Cool Tool

To ensure we had the corect tools with us, I jumped online and found this awesome pocket snowboard tool. It’s the Dakine cool tool. Now I could have just gone to Bunnings and got any screw driver set, but you know if I want to make it pro someday (yeah, dream on), you’ve got to have the right tools. I got it online for $22 (includes express postage) from this place called Surf Stitch. I did look on ebay, but when you factor in international shipping, Surf Stitch worked out to be cheaper and a lot quicker. They also sent this little freebie. A copy of Stab magazine. Sweet!

Pocket rocket – Smirnoff Raw Berry

Smirnoff Ice Double Black - Raw Berry

Don’t underestimate these little babies.

The new Smirnoff Ice Double Black – Raw Berry 300ml cans. Yes they’re only a small 300ml can, but boy do they pack a punch. I only had 1 and a half cans and I could already feel the effect. Not only are they strong as, they taste so good. It’s like drinking Sparkling Ribena. I think I have a new favourite RTD.

Friday mornings

Campos Coffee

I woke up this morning thinking it was Thursday, so it was a nice surprise to realise it was Friday morning (don’t you love it when that happens). The best way to start a Friday morning – a large cup of Campos Coffee. Ahh…

Btw: Still recovering from Oz tag… Oh the pain…

Ouch-tag

Oz-tagNat’s been asking me to play Oz-tag for a while now and everytime she’s asked I’ve been busy. Last night there were no excuses so I went to play. It was a bit of a trek getting to the Shire and when you’re there, the temperature feels 10 degrees colder. Hobbits must like cold weather.

Being my first time playing Oz-tag of course I sucked. Everyime I went to snatch a tag, I would look my hands and find nothing there, no tag and the player already half way down the field. I think the guys on the opposite team realise that I was crap so they’d charge full speed in my direction, which is damn scary cause they’re big (and fast).

Nat kindly forgot to mention that every time someone fills in for their team, they get injured. Well I’m no exception. While chasing a tag, I didn’t see one of my teammates chasing the same tag from the opposite direction. As you can imagine, there was a big clash and my shoulder was introduced to the ground. I’ve now got a nice shiner on my shoulder – battle scars!

She also forgot to mention that you get pretty dirty (especially if you fall). The ground is pretty worn and there’s a lot of dirt to be kicked around and taken home on your shoes. My poor Asics, they’d never seen dirt before.

The scariest brochure I’ve ever seen

I’ve seen some pretty crazy marketing brochures in the past but this takes the cake.

Brochure with fishing hooksI couldn’t believe my eyes. They’re real fishing hooks, real giant fishing hooks. And it gets worse, take a look inside.

HooksThe only thing preventing this hook from stabbing you and bleeding out – a bit of glue and sticky tape.

Seriously… Did they really think this campaign would work.

Chops in the kitchen

Lamb chopsIt’s not often that I get to cook at home, my dad is a chef so he’s king of the kitchen. Most people would think that’s a good thing, but not to me. I actually enjoy cooking (which probably explains why I loved Masterchef – a show about cooking). Today I had a lucky break and decided to make some Rosemary Lamb Chops for dinner.

I haven’t always liked lamb. Actually, I only started to like lamb a few months back when my friend’s mum chucked some on the barbie. Ever since then it’s gradually grown on me to the point where I’ll now order a lamb shank at the bistro instead of my usual steak.

I guess the “Falling in Lamb” ad campaign worked (man I’m such a sucker for marketing!).

(Way too) Spicy buffalo wings

Buffalo wings at the Eastern

The Eastern is one of my favourite pubs in Sydney, not only does it serve great beer on tap (Yay for Kirin!), but they have a killer pub menu. For some strange reason last night I was craving their Spicy Buffalo Wings – they are amazingly good (especially when you drown it in ranch sauce). The last time we were there I was happily eating my wings (drowned in ranch sauce) and was gripping it so tightly, in fear of dropping it, that my fingers slipped and it went flying across the table. Luckily I didn’t get any sauce on anyone but I did, sadly, loose that yummy yummy wing.

On my return to The Eastern last night, I made sure I didn’t make the same mistake twice. Keeping a hold wasn’t a problem, instead it was the spiciness. Oh my goodness. They were so hot! Even my friends who can handle chilli were saying it was really spicy. And I had ordered 2 plates because I was planning to eat a ton of them, in the end I could only down 1 wing. Very disappointing. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles, I’m never going to enjoy those buffalo wings ever again.

Because the wings were so spicily disappointing, I went back to the bar to order a feta and pumpkin pizza. I thought I was playing it safe with the pizza, no chilli in this one. It was really nice, but for some reason every slice of pizza I ate only had pumpkin and no feta. Grr. Still not satisfied.

On the final trip to the bar, Nat ordered me some beef nachos (Thanks Nat!) and another plate of buffalo wings (Whyyy…..?). After a string of disappointment I wasn’t really expecting too much from the nachos.

Winner! But they were fantastic! Though before I dug in I made sure everyone ate the jalapenos (no more spicy!). They were just what I needed to end the night – a belly full of sour cream. Yum!
