Yes I know I’m a dork for taking a photo with them but I don’t care! I was way to excited to care. As soon as Anna spotted them I was jumping around, pointing at them, and on the verge of hyperventilating. Anna even told me to calm down because I was embarrassing. My bad.
There was a whole bunch of the Masterchef contestants at The Argyle: Matthew, Courtney, Jake, Jimmy, Peter, Sharnee, Daniel, Devon and Dom. I got to speak to Jimmy for a bit (he’s so nice!) and probably came off like the biggest dork. Oh well.
Thanks for taking (and asking for) the photo Jess!

My butt felt rather cold yesterday and it wasn’t till about midday when I discovered why. As you can see from the picture above I had a giant hole in my jeans, and they’re not just any jeans, they’re my favourite pair!
I guess I should have seen this coming. I should have thrown them out 2 years ago when they started to fall apart but I still clung on to them. My G’ma has already been at them with a needle and thread twice before. Is it third time lucky or time to throw them out? Argh, I’m still reluctant to throw them away.
(And if you’re wondering, no that isn’t underwear under the jeans).

We headed to the fish markets on the weekend and even though it was packed we still managed to get a table outside in the sun. Marc probably wished we sat elsewhere because his shoulder was blessed from above. Yup, a nice BIG dollop of bird poop which then ricocheted onto all the food. Darn seagulls – I was still eating! Btw, nice work with the cleaning Anna, the poop barely lasted a second before it was all cleaned up. I didn’t even get a picture!
After the poop incident we decided we’d ‘try’ to go to Adriano Zumbo’s for some macaroons but knowing the Zumbo-madness that’s hit Sydney I thought I’d better fill up first, just in case. My pre-dessert: a strawberry ice-cream sandwich.

So glad I had a pre-dessert. As expected Adriano was sold out. Like completely! No macaroons and pretty much no nothing except for some green licorice tart thing.

After a big day out it was time for a nice simple home cooked meal. Here’s Anna’s attempt at plating. Pasta plated nice and neatly.

Then sauce, garlic bread and prosciutto. Nice!

I’m not exactly a huge AFL fan but when Charles said he got Corporate box tickets I was ready to cheer with the best of them.

The view and the food was actually better than I expected. I was expecting sloppy grub but we got a good dose of gourmet stuff: Sushi, sweet potato salad, quiche, butter chicken and rice, meat pies and a cheese plate at the end. Even though the gourmet stuff was nice I was craving crap food, hence I enjoyed the pie the best.
Now that I’ve been to a Swans game in the corporate box, I don’t think I can attend any other way. I’d be sitting there wondering where the free food and booze is.

After our failed attempt at the Biennale we headed to the Guylian Cafe at The Rocks. It was great because there was no line and we got a table straight away. After prowling the cake display and menu we decided on the winning 3.
First up the Ménage à Trois: panna cotta, raspberry and chocolate mousse, and white chocolate croissant pudding (left to right in picture below). I’m a big fan of bread and butter pudding and white chocolate so it only made sense that my favourite was the white chocolate croissant pudding. Yum!

The Coconut dream cake was also a great choice. Good pick Anna! That orange carrot looking thing on top was really nice, sorta tasted like a jaffa (I’m a big fan of jaffas too).

Last but not least was the Lychee tart, which was average.

After eating we headed to the cinemas to watch Twilight. I don’t know why I was so excited about watching it, I blame it on all the sugar. Seriously worst movie ever! Can’t believe I actually paid $18 to watch it. If it weren’t for coffee at Guylian (and Jacob) I would have fallen asleep!

We tried to be cultured on the weekend so we checked out the Biennale at Cockatoo Island.

It’s great that there’s a free ferry service from Circular Quay to the Island otherwise we probably wouldn’t have went (yes, we’re tight!).
It’s a bit strange that we went because none of us are actually into art, nor do we know how to critique or interpret it. As such we didn’t really look at much, but here’s a few shots of the ones that we saw. This was one of the first ones we saw, it’s probably also the coolest.

The girls posing with Death.

This was pretty cool, the paint looked really oily and shiny (as you can tell from my description, I’m so not an art person).

I thought this was pretty cool. It was a giant cube with writing all over it. I couldn’t get a shot of the entire cube because it was huge!

We all got bored in about 20 minutes so we went on the hunt for food. I went with the lamb roll, which wasn’t even warm! If I knew it was going to be a cold lamb roll I wouldn’t have gotten it, cold lamb isn’t my cup of tea. But the plate and cutlery was pretty cool.

We had planned to eat then continue exploring the island, but at the mention of Guylian cafe we all hopped on the next ferry back and forgot about exploring. Oh well, at least we tried to be cultured.

The last 2 weeks have been a bit crazy which explains the lack of blog posts. I got the flu from a big night out in town and was bed ridden for a while. Then we moved office, just around the corner, and I now have an amazing view from my desk (and a giant catch up pile of work to get through). Then for the past week I spent every waking hour searching for a campervan for Splendour. Thankfully we found one in the end but boy was it a pain in the rear end to find. I seriously called every campervan hire place in NSW and QLD. In the end we got a 2 person campervan for 3 people. Luckily my friends are small so it’s gonna be a squish.
Anyhoo, that’s the latest. I should be back to a regular posting pattern now.

Jamie and Stephen recently got engaged and to celebrate they threw a huge winter steam-boat party. I’ve never seen so many steam boats set up before so props to the parents. Actually there was so much food I think I was a bit of a stunned mullet not knowing where to start.
Dessert was really impressive too, the cake and cupcakes were made by Jamie’s cousins. If you’re wondering what’s on top of the cake they’re turtles, Jamie’s got a thing for turtles and I think Stephen plays basketball.

Congrats Jamie and Stephen!

Charles‘ birthday last year was pretty crazy with a whole bunch of alcohol fuelled boys daring each other to eat a combination of Jap foods and condiments. This year, maybe because we’re all getting older, was a lot more tame. We headed to Koh-ya for all-you-can eat Jap BBQ and we pretty much took over half of the restaurant. Because we only had a 90 minute seating we made sure we stuffed ourselves fast, and silly. At times we were just ordering anything and everything.
One of the random items we ordered was sardines. I’ve never eaten Sardines unless they’ve come out of a can so it was a huge surprise to discover that these had so many eggs in them. Actually it was pretty much all egg and no meat.

Seriously, is that normal?
Now Charles’ birthday wouldn’t be complete unless there was some sort of food dare involved. This was the pot at it’s half way mark, so far there was orange peel, garlic, an assortment of meats and greens, and sardines in the cup.

Whatever entered the cup after our table is unknown to me, and I’m quite happy not knowing because whatever it was, it stunk! Poor Zi couldn’t keep it down.

Because Zi didn’t keep it down (partly due to the spew noises all the boys were making) he didn’t get the money. I don’t think anyone could have kept that monster of a cup down, I feel sick just looking at it.

There’s like a billion Thai restaurants in Sydney. It’s starting to get ridiculous. At Kirribilli alone there’s 4 within 100 metres – that’s just stupid! Now you’d think with so many Thai places at Kirribilli you’d be able to get cheap Thai food. Nope, unfortunately that’s not the case.

My chicken Pad See Eew was $14. What a rip! I could get 2 of these at Bondi for that price. Anyway, according to Masterchef “it all comes down to taste” right? How did it go? I’d say a 6/10. Chicken was perfectly cooked, but I wasn’t too impressed with the amount of salt that was in it. Seriously think my blood pressure went sky rocketing after eating that.
